This Saturday is the feast of Australia's first saint, St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Together with the Reverend Julian Tenison-Woods, she founded the Sisters of St.Joseph (the Josephites), a congregation of religious sisters that established a number of schools, including a number of schools in our area. They also established welfare institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand, with an emphasis on education for the rural poor.
Holy God, source of all goodness,
you show us in Mary MacKillop
a woman of faith who lived by the power of the cross.
Teach us to embrace what she pioneered:
new ways of living the gospel
that respect and defend the human dignity of all in our land.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Diocese of Wollongong
Feast Day Mass of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – 8 August 2020
On the feast day of St Mary MacKillop (8 August) the Diocese of Wollongong, in collaboration with the Diocesan Catholic Women’s League, usually celebrates Mass at one of the churches where Mary MacKillop visited during her lifetime. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions and limitations arising from that, this year we will be filming a special Liturgy of the Word for the feast day. You are invited to view the liturgy on the Diocesan YouTube channel and website www.dow.org.au on Saturday, 8 August 2020.
Don’t forget to register for Mass before attending.(https://www.ccsh.org.au)
Thank you to Monsignor David O’Brien, for filling in for Father Sean while he is away.
Please remember that all Masses will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, because of the social distancing requirements.

Please remember Fr Sean in your prayers, who celebrated the 36-year anniversary of his Ordination on 4 August, the Feast of St John Vianney.
Morning Arrivals
At present we have a large number of students that are arriving at school late each day. Could we please ask that, unless there is a very good reason, your children are here to start the school day before the bell. When children are late, it causes anxiety and they sometimes miss out on vital work and instructions, which makes them feel like they are playing catch up all day.
Did you know that your child’s best learning time is the start of the school day? That’s when every minute counts the most. Missing just 10 minutes per day equates to 6.9 days over a year. Increase that to 30 minutes and it is 20.7 missed days. Every minute counts! See flyer below.
We would also now like to encourage all students to go directly to the playground in the mornings instead of coming through the office. To support this, we are about to commence a “welcome to school” group which has been initiated by some of our Stage 3 students to help those students that have been a bit anxious since the return from remote learning.
Special Exhibition of Fine Woodwork
Have a lovely week.

Acting Principal
At STA we have three very important school rules:
At STA we have a uniform code to follow. When we are wearing the correct uniform we are representing our school with pride, respect and showing fairness to all students and staff.
Remember to:
- Wear Black Leather shoes with full school uniform.
- Wear mostly white joggers on sports days.
Remember pride in the uniform is a thing!
Act respectfully and wear the uniform correctly.

At STA we follow the rules of the game we are playing.
- Use all the equipment correctly.
- Check the posters around the school or check with a teacher if you are not sure.
- Use kind and respectful words and voice when sorting out a problem in a game. Always use your manners.
- Hands on, tackling and contact sport is NEVER allowed at STA. This is the rule for EVERYONE, every single day.
- Safe and respectful play is not about winning or losing, or if you are in or out.
Just be a good sport and have fun with your friends. Watch these videos about respect.
Remember to follow the STA rules during play.
Stay Safe and Act Respectfully every single day.
