SAINT MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP

Feast Day August 8

Mary MacKillop was born in Melbourne in 1842 and died in Sydney on 8 August 1909.  She took the religious name Mary of the Cross.  Mary saw the needs of poor children living in remote areas of Australia and founded the Sisters of St Joseph in 1866 to provide education for these children.  She and the sisters shared the life of the poor, offering special care to women and children in great need.  She is remembered for her eagerness to discover God's will in all things, for her charity, care and compassion for others, and for her trust in God.

Ever generous God
You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and constant in bringing hope and encouragement
to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence
and through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop
We ask that you grant our requests.
We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit
so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and
openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.

We ask this through Jesus Christ. Amen.

MASS WITH BISHOP BRIAN

YEAR 6 students from Camden, Picton, Mittagong , Bowral and Moss Vale gathered at St Paul’s Moss Vale to celebrate Mass with Bishop Brian and then celebrate friendship with each other with a concert from the Wollongong Youth team. The students participated reverently in the Mass and as Bishop Brian walked through the assembly and asked questions, they listened and answered. He reminded the students that knowing about Jesus is vey different from knowing Jesus. To develop a relationship with Jesus, to know him, means spending time with him in prayer and treating others they way Jesus did, with kindness and compassion.

Our Liturgy group with Mrs Hamilton, Mr Blake, Michael and Nicholas Taylor lifted the liturgy with beautiful music.

Another highlight of the day was the concert from the youth Ministry Team.  The children experienced the joy of singing and dancing as a group, very enthusiastically!
