Student Activities

The annual CDF Diocesan Public Speaking Competitions were cancelled this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, we did not want our Stage 3 students to miss out on the experience. As a result, we conducted our own in-school competitions, which culminated in a Grand Final last Thursday. We had six Year 5 and six Year 6 students compete with each other for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each grade. The speeches presented were of a very high standard from both the Year 5 and Year 6 students.  This year’s speech topics included:

Year 5:

  • Failing is a part of the plan, but nobody plans to fail.

  • An incredible discovery.

  • Remote learning - positive or negative

  • Many voices, one land.

  • Every cloud has a silver lining.

  • It's not about what it is, it's about what it can become.” Dr Seuss.

Year 6:

  • Famous failures.

  • It gets easier with practice.

  • Remote learning, is it the way of the future?

  • It was the first day of high school and I .....

  • Australia, the next 25 years.

  • "Today I shall behave as if this is the last day I will be remembered.” Dr Seuss.

The adjudicator commented on the day that her job of selecting three placegetters was a difficult one due to the high quality and standard of the speakers. The following students competed in the competition:

Year 5

Lucy C, Maria P, Edward A, Bridget C, Evie W, Elsie W

Year 6

Louisa S, Sophie M, Amelia d H, Ella S, Josephine H, Ella B

The following students from Year 5 were successful in being placed on the day:

1st Place – Edward A

2nd Place – Lucy C

3rd Place – Maria P

The following students from Year 6 were successful in being placed on the day:

1st Place – Louisa S

2nd Place - Ella B

3rd Place - Josephine H

Thank you to Mrs Gabrielle McPherson who adjudicated and Mrs Robinson who organised the event.
